The girls played their first matched last Friday afternoon- they lost against a Lowes Wong side who had been training since last year and drew with Chuter Ede. Both were very skillful teams.
The girls then went onto to achieve a first in Farndon Girls’ history by coming 4th in the girls football tournament Wednesday afternoon, against some very experienced players and teams. They qualified for the semi-finals after holding Lowes Wong to a 0-0 draw, despite losing to them last week and won 3 other matches. They tied in first place at the top of their group. Well done girls it was a very proud moment and your parents were very excited! Unfortunately we lost in the semi-final to a very strong and talented Sir Donald Bailey side and came 4th overall.
On Saturday the boys tournament was also held at Flowserve. They also achieved the best results for years: drawing 5 matches and only losing 2. Well done boys.
It is important to remember that as a small school we have fewer players to choose from and this gives a handicap from the start. But we have 2 very promising teams who are exhibiting great teamwork, passion and effort and we are looking forward to the future fixtures.
Many thanks to parents, family and friends who come and support and also a big thank you to Mr Rhodes-Yeomans, Mrs Sedgwick and Mrs Papworth.
