  • Online Safety

    Our Intent of Online Safety:

Our Computing curriculum is carefully designed to equip children with the essential knowledge and skills to navigate the digital landscape safely and effectively. We focus on:

    • Digital Literacy: Online safety is at the heart of our curriculum. Children learn to manage digital content responsibly, understand their role as digital citizens, and engage with the internet safely. This reflects our values of dignity, peace, and community, ensuring respect and understanding both online and offline.

    Implementation of Online Safety:

In EYFS children are taught discrete skills and apply them in adult-led group activities, or in their independent child-initiated play. children are taught discrete lessons and are given the opportunity to apply their skills across a range of different tasks and subjects. Children will know how to keep themselves safe online and will understand and have the confidence to tell someone when they don’t feel safe, sharing their knowledge with their families.

In both Key Stage 1 and 2, children participate in weekly, hands-on Computing lessons that build progressively on their skills and knowledge. These lessons are designed to be  engaging and age-appropriate, with online safety revisited regularly through discussions and activities.

    Our approach includes:

    • Teaching children to recognise safe and unsafe online behaviours.
    • Encouraging critical thinking about the reliability of digital content.
    • Developing resilience and responsibility when using technology.
    • Providing each child with access to their own Purple Mash login, a secure platform where they can explore computing in a fun and safe environment—from creating art to designing computer games.

By integrating these elements into our curriculum, we ensure that children not only learn how to use technology but also understand the importance of using it safely and respectfully.

    The Impact: Responsible Digital Citizens

By the end of Key Stage 1 our Children will:

    • Understand the interconnected nature of the internet and how sharing information can be a good thing, but must be done so with boundaries to keep us safe.
    • Know that people sometimes behave differently online.
    • Combine media from multiple sources to create a new piece of work digitally.
    • Combine media from multiple sources to create a new piece of work digitally.
    • Compose a simple set of instructions to complete more complex tasks. Use abstraction and prediction to understand how a program will behave and make changes to control this.

By the end of Key Stage 2, our children will:

    • Be confident in creating and debugging simple computer programmes.
    • Understand how technology supports everyday life and learning.
    • Use digital tools effectively for a variety of purposes.
    • Demonstrate a clear understanding of online safety principles.
    • Evaluate digital content critically and behave responsibly online.

This foundation aligns with our school vision rooted in love, where every child is encouraged to flourish and grow with confidence. We prepare them not just for the next stage of their education but for life in a digital society, fostering hope and joy in their learning journey.

Working Together for a Safer Digital Future

We believe that online safety is a shared responsibility between school, parents, and the wider community. We encourage parents to engage with their children’s digital learning and support them in practising safe online habits at home.

If you have any questions about our Computing curriculum or online safety, please get in touch with us. Together, we can nurture a community where every child thrives safely in the digital world.
