Rooted in love we flourish and grow

Our Planet - Our School

At St Peters Cross Keys we recognise that we are in a climate crisis and that we all have a role to play in making changes to protect our planet for ourselves, future generations and all the species we share the planet with.

We are committed to doing our very best for our pupils, our school environment, our community and believe that this will support the whole world’s transition to a healthier planet.

We see the impact that climate change is having across the world and not least have seen and felt the impacts in our local village with flooding effecting our community directly.

Things we have done & are doing:

  • We are proud to be part of the UK Climate Change • Let's Go Zero campaign and through this we have carried out a baseline assessment of our carbon footprint.
  • We are proud to have a lower-than-average carbon footprint for the size of our school of 156.15 tonnes per year but remain committed to reducing this as much as possible.
  • We have a long running eco-club that pupils manage and run, enjoying the fruits of their labour in our garden kitchen. When we have excess produce, we gift them to the community. We love our healthy, home grown veggies.
  • We have solar panels on our school roof & in our reception area, you can see a digital display of how much energy our school has produced since they were installed.
  • We compost our fruit and vegetables snacks in school.
  • Embedding climate and nature content across our curriculum.

Things we are working towards:

  • Reducing our meat consumption as a school.
  • Recycling more of what we use in school.
  • Ensuring we represent and consider nature and the impacts we have on it, in all that we do in school.
  • Improving our school environment to make it as nature and biodiversity friendly as possible.

Please see below a link to a video showing Eco Club's recent work with Farndon Residence Eco Group (FREG) planting bluebells in the village to promote diversity of plants and animals in our local area.
